“We need to rethink our entire concept of church and discover it afresh through the lens of Jesus and the apostles.”
~ Frank Viola in REIMAGINING CHURCH (David C. Cook, 2008), p. 273.
In January 2008, Pagan Christianity by Frank Viola and George Barna rocked the Christian world.
Yet this book was only the first half of the argument. It was never meant to be a stand-alone book.
Pagan Christianity only deconstructs, the follow-up books construct.
Therefore, if you only read PAGAN CHRISTIANITY on its own without the constructive follow-ups, you have a misunderstanding of the book’s content and intent and will probably misapply it (which has happened countless times).
In August 2008, Reimagining Church by Frank Viola was released. It’s the second half of the argument, and it constructs.
From Eternity to Here – is the next constructive book in the series. It presents the big, sweeping epic saga of God’s Eternal Purpose and God’s passion for the ekklesia. Many have called this the most important book in the series.
Finding Organic Church – is a practical guide on how to plant, sustain, and maintain an organic expression of the church. This book gives the nuts and bolts of the practical side of the vision.
Insurgence – Frank’s signature work on the gospel of the kingdom of God and the relationship between kingdom and church. Insurgence is the author’s landmark work.

The publisher fixed three typos, mostly in the footnotes. They are:
(1) On page 118, footnote 76 is incorrect. It has recently been replaced with this correction:
76 Donald E. Brown, Hierarchy, History, and Human Nature (Tucson: The University of Arizona Press, 1988), 119–179; Murray Bookchin, The Ecology of Freedom (Palo Alto: Cheshire Books, 1982), 62–88; Peter Gelderloos, “The Rise of Hierarchy,” The Anarchist Library, fall 2005; Stephanie Pappas, “Origins of Hierarchy: How Egyptian Pharaohs Rose to Power” Live Science (August 11, 2014).
(2) Another typo appears on page 103. The reference John 1:1-3 is wrong. It should be 1 John 1:1-3.
(3) On page 130, footnote 154. The footnote has been corrected and now reads — Luther, “Concerning the Ministry,” Luther’s Works, 40:35.
Typo error for Reimagining Church:
In Chapter 4, just before the second heading, “In fact, the church of Jesus Christ met in the homes of its members for the first three hundred [years] of its existence.” The publisher will add the missing word [years] where it was accidentally left out.
